Comments:
After graduating from Longwood College in 1963, I worked as a mathematician at NASA in Hampton for a year. In 1964 I married Frank and moved to the Lynchburg, VA area and began teaching both mathematics and art at Rustburg High School. In 1981 I received my Master's Degree, and when I finally retired in 2000, I was chairman of the high school mathematics department. Frank had already retired as Human Resources Manager for VDOT for Central Virginia.
We bought our present home which is on 28 acres near Lynchburg about ten years ago. It came with a small grass airstrip and a hangar. Although neither of us flies, we have enjoyed having friends use the facilities. We plant a large garden each year, and I can or freeze much of the produce. We also enjoy watching the wildlife including turkeys, deer, foxes, and unfortunately, coyotes.
Both of us have our ham radio licenses, although I rarely use mine. I would list reading, cooking, and painting as being my hobbies.
In the 70's, 80's and 90's, we attended many NASCAR races -- often taking our camper. We also frequently camped in Bath County. Now that we are retired, we usually go to Daytona Beach two or three times a year and just relax by the ocean.
